I learned to illustrate my ideas in different exercises. One way was drawing by hand. For example with the isometric, central- and vanishing point perspective.
To colorize my ideas I learned to work with aquarelle and copics and to let the pictures look more realistic we use different kinds of lighting in a drawing like hard shadow and object shadow.
